Temperature Management and Measurement Options

Texture Technologies offers several temperature control attachments that complement the Stable Micro Systems' family of texture analysis instruments, providing accurate and reproducible texture and product testing results.

Our temperature management options include temperature cabinets, peltier controlled temperature devices (plates and cabinets), and fully integrated temperature measurement devices. Please choose from the list of temperature options below and please don't hesitate to contact your regional Texture Technologies representative with any questions:

Thermal Cabinets
Peltier Controlled Temperature Devices
Temperature Measurement Devices

Texture Technologies offers two types of Thermal Cabinets:

The TC/CO2 and TC/LN2 for the TA.XTPlus Texture Analyzer
The TCHD/CO2 and TCHD/LN2 for the TA.HDPlus Texture Analyzer
Peltier Controlled Temperature Devices

When used in conjunction with the TA.XTPlus or TA.HDPlus Texture Analyzer, the Temperature Controlled Peltier Cabinet (XT/PC) and Temperature Controlled Plate (XT/PP) provide a highly stable and accurate testing environment for many products.

The temperature controllers comprise the Peltier Plate or Cabinet coupled to a separate Peltier Control Unit (PCU). The PCU can be conveniently located so that the required temperature can be easily set and displayed or placed away from the Texture Analyzer if space is at a premium. The coolant reservoir in the PCU has a screw cap and the connectors are self sealing for easy transportation. No water baths or cooling gases are required.

The temperature controllers will also interface with the Exponent software package so you can set and record temperature data. In conjunction with the temperature ramp facilities of the PID control unit, this allows some temperature dependent properties to be measured.

The Peltier Cabinet
XT/PC - Peltier Cabinet and Temperature Controller - The Peltier Cabinet provides a temperature controlled environment using PID control with an operating range from +80°C to 20°C below ambient. It is fixed directly to the base of the texture analyser via nylon insulating pillars that provide a thermal barrier from the instrument.

Samples can be allowed to equilibrate to the required temperature before testing is performed within the cabinet. A double walled transparent hinged door allows the sample to be seen during testing and is easily opened for sample access. A Peltier Control Unit is provided on which temperature is set and displayed. Integration with Exponent software is key to quick temperature changing with the benefit of being able to measure, capture and display temperature data in real time during the texture analysis plot.

A total internal height of 85mm provides a testing area suitable for many typical sample sizes but may be limited if testing a large sample or if the test requires attachment of a large probe or fixture.
The Peltier Plate
XT/PP - Peltier Plate and Temperature Controller - The Peltier Plate provides a stable surface temperature for testing small or thin products such as pressure sensitive adhesives. This ensures that temperature effects are either minimized or are able to be accurately investigated.

The surface dimensions are 110mm x 100mm and maximum operating temperature is +80°C to a minimum of 30°C below ambient.

Fully Integrated Temperature + Humidity Measurement Modules

Temperature Mangements
These modules add to the versatility of the Texture Analyzers by providing the facility to capture temperature and humidity data during a test. When Exponent software is used the temperature is sampled every ten seconds and recorded with the texture analysis data. All modules connect to the Texture Analyzer via the RS485 port. Four modules can be connected at one time to log data simultaneously from up to four locations.

Texture Technologies offers several Fully Integrated Temperature Modules:

The FIT/MOD , Fully Integrated Temperature Module - This platinum resistance hand probe (PT100) is designed to BS1904:1984 Class A. The platinum element is protected in a 2.5mm diameter stainless steel sheath. The module measures and plots product temperature over the range -50°C to +250°C. It has a fast response time and a sensor accuracy of ±0.35°C over the standard working temperature range. It can be easily cleaned and sterilized without degrading performance. This RS485 device will be useful if the two PT100 temperature inputs are already being used.
The XT/HTM, Humidity Temperature Module This module adds to the versatility of the Texture Analysers by providing the facility to capture temperature and humidity data during a test. When Exponent software is used the temperature is sampled every ten seconds and recorded with the texture analysis data. A module connects to the Texture Analyser via the RS485 port and up to four modules can be connected at one time to log data simultaneously from up to four locations. The Hygroclip is a product designed according to International Standards to ISO 9001 and meets EN50082-2 EMC requirements. It has an operating range of 0-100% RH (relative humidity) and -30°C to +100°C. Accuracy at 23°C is ±2.5%RH and ±0.3°C. Given the size of this probe it is more suited for insertion into current Stable Micro Systems temperature units. A Flexible Clamping Arm is also included for fixed positioning of the probe close to the measuring area.
The XT/TPR Thermocouple Probe - A PT100 thermocouple probe that plugs into the PT100 connector on the Texture Analyser and gives direct measurement over the temperature range -50°C to 250°C. Two probes can be connected via the PT100 ports to log data simultaneously from separate locations.
